Tie the Knot Legally
Confirm your civil ceremony up to 24 months in advance, available 7 days a week, at any time you choose.
If you want your marriage recognized as legal at home, you must have a civil/legal ceremony. But you can combine this official portion of the ceremony with a religious ceremony if you choose. Although civil marriages performed in Mexico are legal in Mexico, you must legalize your marriage in your country of birth/residence. Do this by registering your marriage certificate at your local City Hall when you return home.
Civil ceremonies are performed in Spanish and translated to English by our On-Site Wedding Coordinator.
Civil Ceremony Requirements:
- Advanced Stay: The wedding couple and witnesses must arrive at the hotel three full business days before the civil/legal wedding ceremony to complete the blood tests and process required documents. Saturday, Sunday and Mexican holidays are not considered business days.
- Blood Tests: Blood tests for bride and groom are performed at the resort. There is a fee of approximately $125 per person; this fee is included in the Gold Wedding Package.
- Witnesses: Legal ceremonies in Mexico require four official witnesses. You may use guests attending your wedding as witnesses, or the hotel can provide witnesses at no additional cost . You’ll need to indicate your witnesses on your Civil Registration Form. Your witnesses must be at least 18 years old. They must arrive at the hotel three full business days before the ceremony in order to complete the documentation process. They’ll need a valid passport and Tourist Card.
- Required Documents: Official documentation is necessary in order for your marriage to be legal. They are meant to establish your identity and that you are free to marry. Some documents must be translated into Spanish and have an Apostille Certificate so they are internationally accepted.
